Julie's writes a dissertation on refugee students; Mariela and Pancho reconnect in Bulgaria

Julie McWilliams is working on her dissertation and has finished coursework for a joint-PhD in urban education and cultural anthropology.  Her dissertation is about refugee students in Philadelphia schools and their transition experiences to the U.S., and she is pictured with three of her students.  She will be spending the year gathering data for that.  Kurt Kuehne just started his masters in Southeast Asian studies at the University of Wisconsin.  He also spent the summer taking an intensive Burmese course.
Mariela Vacheva and Pancho
Mulongeni are pictured having a reunion at a café in Sofia, Bulgaria on May 25th.  Pancho came to Princeton as an international student from Namibia, but he was also a part of the Bulgarian speaking community since he was born in Sofia and half of his family hails from there.  Pancho said, “Mariela is amazing, not only does she work in a local I-bank, but she also set up an NGO called 'Tuk-Tam' (Here and There) that helps the vast number of Bulgarian young people living outside the country find jobs that facilitate their return.” Mariela has organized a forum around career opportunities annually since graduating in 2008.  Pancho works at PharmAccess Foundation as a research assistant and recently helped organize a conference for the HIV Clinicians' Society of Namibia on the latest advances on HIV treatment and prevention.
