Anand gets married and Martin visits Lisa in Japan!

Anand Oza and Roshina Nandra (Imperial '07; Cambridge '12*) were married on July 6, 2013 in Roshina's hometown of Sheffield, UK. They met at Cambridge, where Anand was studying for his master's in applied math and Roshina her doctorate in astrophysics. A number of Tigers made the journey across the pond for the sangeet, a pre-wedding event held on the 4th of July, and came bearing American flags. Much to everyone's (and their own) surprise, they managed to perform a choreographed dance at the wedding reception without any major injuries, although Devang Amin came inches from toppling the cake.

Martin Jancik also shared: “I was in Japan couple of weeks ago and managed to meet up with one of the '08 soccer all-stars: Ms. Lisa Chinn” (pictured here)! Lisa has been living in Japan for 4 years since March 2010. She started out teaching English at an English conversation school, expecting only to be there one year. But she said she just loved living in Tokyo, and kept extending her stay. At the end of 2012, she was fortunate enough to get a great opportunity to direct a brand new kids English school that is part of a Japanese cram school called Gnoble. Lisa spent about a year preparing for the opening, and they opened two schools last October and are hoping to open more in the near future! 

Celene appointed as new faculty at Andover Newton Theological School

Celene Ayat Lizzio recently began a new faculty appointment in Islamic Studies at Andover Newton Theological School and Hebrew College.  She is also co-Director of the Center for Interreligious and Communal Leadership Education there.   A press release about her appointment said, “Ms. Celene Ayat Lizzio is recognized as a leading representative of the new generation of American Muslim thinkers and leaders. Her position will involve both teaching courses at the schools, developing programs in conjunction with the existing interfaith work there, and enabling greater interaction between Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities.”

          In other news, Celene’s daughter Rahma Ibrahim just turned 8 years old and is pictured doing her favorite past-time – rock climbing!  Celene brought her to the Princeton rock climbing wall when she was just 6 months old.  Celene said “she was climbing before she could walk ;)”.

Celene’s husband of almost 10 years, Ahmed Ibrahim, who she met while on study abroad while in her sophomore year at Princeton, moved into a new position as Security Manager at Harvard Real Estate.  Ahmed is also an assistant coach for Harvard Volleyball alongside head coach (and Princeton alumnus!) Brian Baise '95.  They are living in Brookline in Southern New Hampshire, which gives them plenty of time outdoors!

Caleb is born, and Mike studies at Oxford

Jennifer (Sherwood) Walker and her husband Clark had their first child, Caleb Roy Walker, on November 30th, 2013!! He is the first great-grandchild of L.T. Sherwood (Class of 1943), Jennifer's grandpa.  Caleb enjoyed Jennifer's 5th Reunions (in utero!) and looks forward to many more reunions in the future. In the meantime, he has been decked out in tiger gear to show his enthusiasm. Jennifer, Clark, and Caleb are loving living in Charlottesville, VA.  

Mike Scharff moved across the pond in September to begin a one-year master's degree in African Studies at Oxford and is writing a dissertation on aviation in Africa. In his spare time, Mike sings with the Christ Church Choir. David Page '07 visited Mike in late November. Here they are pictured in Christ Church Meadow.

A Charleston Wedding, and a Band Wish come true

ALLISON HARDING married Brian Reichenbach (Miami U. of Ohio '08) on Sept. 21, 2013, at beautiful Lowndes Grove in Charleston, SC. The couple met in law school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and are now living and working in Nashville.  Princetonians were well represented both in the wedding party and among the guests. JOEL THOMPSON reports, “Last year, in honor of our 5th Reunion, the Class of 2008 Alumni of the Princeton University Band donated the funds to the Band to purchase a new bass drum, an instrument that was on the Band's wish list. Those who donated were CINDI TEXTOR, DAVE FORD, ALMA MOEDANO, CLINTON HANSEN, DAVID ZASLAVSKY, BRANDON VIGIL, GREG SNYDER, JEFF BAGDIS, ALAN BARNES, and myself. While the drum itself was present with us at our reunion, the stylized drum head was delayed. However, it was ready by Homecoming, and so here is a picture of myself, JEFF, and DAVID at the homecoming game with the '08 Bass Drum.”

Two more marriages in 08!

Greg Hiller and Linsay (Jenkins) Hiller were married in the Princeton Chapel on October 5, 2013. Their wedding party included Angelica Willey (Harris), Gabrielle Moore, John Martinez, and Daniel Cohen. Linsay said, “Greg and I had many mutual friends in college and lived next door to one another our sophomore year in Blair Hall, but we didn't really know one another. We met again and started dating in 2010 when we were both living in Northern Virginia. I recently graduated from Fordham Law and am working as an in-house counsel at a boutique investment bank in Princeton on Nassau Street, and Greg is studying urban planning at the Bloustein School at Rutgers.”

Victoria Laws and Steven Brown ’07 were married June 30, 2013 in Claremont, CA. Tigers in attendance included best man Darnell Motley ’06; bridesmaids Irene Routte, Anna Almore, and Aimee Ramirez ’07; Brandee Tate ’09, Joe Ramirez ’07, Lola Adekunle, Andy Ramirez ’07, Cynthia Kanagui ’09, Rob Spackey, Jenny Zhang, Jessica Gamboa ’09, Jessica Montoya ’09, Bobbie King ’06, Manuel Perez ’11, Destiny Ortega ’12, Robert Hampshire ’07, and Alex Murphy ’12. Victoria said, “we’re so grateful to all of them for coming from near and far to celebrate with us. And special thanks Joe Ramirez for leading everyone in a resounding locomotive for us immediately after this photo was taken!”  Victoria just finished up a Presidential Management Fellowship with the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and is continuing on there as an analyst. Steven is working for Abt Associates and finishing up his PhD in Sociology at Harvard University.
